For 35 years, Bishu Fras’ world has revolved around children and youth wellness. As a counselor and practicing psychologist for schools in the County of Strathcona, he plays an integral role in student social skill development, learning assessments, and conflict resolution, as well as personal and family counselling.
His passion for connecting with kids extends into his community where he has been volunteer baseball coach to the children in his neighbourhood, and he is always willing to step in and lend a hand when his community league needs help.
Bishu has been a Sandy Lane customer since 1985, back when the shop was on Coronet Road. The first car he ever brought to Sandy Lane was a 1985 charcoal Volvo 740 with tan interior.
“A few years ago, we were on a road trip to Winnipeg for a family function and we were having some trouble with the vehicle. We took it into a Toyota dealership mid-journey and they gave us this long list of things that we needed to do to fix the problem. I called Brett and told him what was going on, and he was doubtful, and gave his own opinion of what was happening with the car. It turned out, most of what we were told needed replacing was not needed. Brett and company were great partners in this.
More recently, we bought a second-hand GMC and I took it for a test drive and drove it over to Sandy Lane for some advice on whether or not it was a good buy. That is the kind of relationship you want with your mechanic. ”
“Upper Crust is a staple. I have been a patron since it opened, and I always look forward to whatever the special of the day is, and, of course, the caramel lava cakes.”
“I just finished Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood. It was really good.”
“Everything outdoors! We have a cabin in the Nelson area and love all kinds of winter and water sports.”
“It has always been the river valley. We are just so active, and we love cycling and going to our great parks.”
Thank you, Bishu, for all your years of loyalty to Sandy Lane!
