“Cone Zones” Can Be Tough on Vehicles

Spring and summer is THE season for “cone zones”---road construction sites where you will likely hit a bump or two, come across loose stones, and other hazards. These rough road conditions can be tough on a vehicle’s steering and suspension system and can affect your wheel alignment. Loose stones also have the potential to damage a vehicle’s exterior or windshield, according to the non-profit Car Care Council. Even the most careful motorist driving slowly through road construction can be affected.

“Symptoms” of steering, suspension, and wheel alignment issues include uneven tire wear. Drivers become aware of this when they feel pulling to one side, or when they experience noise and vibration while steering, or even lose steering control. We recommend that motorists have their vehicles checked out immediately if any of these symptoms exist, as steering and suspension systems are key safety-related components, and largely determine the car’s ride and handling.

Regardless of road conditions, these systems should be checked annually and a wheel alignment should be performed at the same time. At Sandy Lane Automotive, we include a wheel alignment check as part of our comprehensive 85 point seasonal inspection. We will also ensure that all steering and suspension components are in good shape to help maximize the life of your tires. Having your vehicle checked over will help to avoid more costly repairs down the road and safeguard your family’s safety on the road.

We recommend that our clients do frequent visual checks of their vehicle’s exterior and windshield to identify any chips, dings or cracks. If the windshield has been compromised, we can arrange for a replacement while your vehicle is onsite for its service appointment.

If you have any questions about your steering, suspension or wheel alignment, don’t hesitate to call or email Chris or Joe. We are here for you!  780.469.0075 chris@sandylaneauto.com
